Reno/Tahoe is consistently underestimated by out-of-market planners who think of it as a secondary Las Vegas. It isn't. It is a distinct destination with its own value proposition: 600,000+ sq ft of single-level convention space, five casino resort hotels within shuttle distance, 300 days of sunshine, and Lake Tahoe 45 minutes away. Trident is headquartered here — this is our home market.
The RSCC — what the numbers mean in practice
The Reno-Sparks Convention Center is a single-level facility — 600,000+ square feet without the vertical complexity of multi-floor convention centers in other markets. That means no elevator logistics, no split exhibit floors, and a single dock-to-floor flow that simplifies move-in dramatically.
The six primary properties — matched to program type
Grand Sierra Resort — 224,000 sq ft meeting space, 2,000 hotel rooms. The largest all-in-one convention resort in the market. Works best when you need lodging and meeting space in one property and want to minimize attendee movement. Conference center connects directly to the hotel tower.
Peppermill Resort — 100,000+ sq ft meeting space, 1,600 rooms. The premium hotel in Reno — higher-end finishes, multiple restaurant options, full spa. Choose Peppermill when the hotel experience matters as much as the meeting space: executive groups, incentive qualifiers staying an extra night, or programs where attendees will notice the difference.
Atlantis Casino Resort — 65,000 sq ft meeting space, 824 rooms. Solid mid-tier operation. Consistent rates, reliable service. Best as the third block property for citywides or as a primary option for programs where budget is the governing constraint.
Edgewood Tahoe — 154 rooms and cottages, 30,000 sq ft event space, championship golf course, National Historic Landmark lakefront setting. Not a convention property. Choose Edgewood for groups of under 150 where the setting is the program — executive retreats, incentive qualifiers, award dinners. The rate premium is significant; the experience justifies it for the right group.
Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe — 422 rooms in Incline Village on the North Shore, 18,000 sq ft meeting space. More accessible than Edgewood for mid-size groups who want a Tahoe property without a buyout-scale budget.
Reno/Tahoe programs that split between convention space downtown and a Tahoe lake property need active transportation management between them — they're 45 minutes apart and the logistics don't run themselves.
What most out-of-market planners get wrong
- Booking the hotel before RSCC: Convention center dates fill first. Secure RSCC availability before approaching hotels.
- Treating Reno and Tahoe as one destination: They're 45–60 minutes apart. A program split between both needs transportation management — groups don't Uber between them.
- Underestimating arrival concentration: RNO is 10 minutes from downtown, but arrivals often compress into a narrow window. Vehicle count and staging matter.
- Assuming off-season rates in winter: Ski season is busy. Lowest rates are April–May and October–November.
- Missing the outdoor programming: Lake Tahoe skiing, Truckee River rafting, Sierra hiking — all within 45 minutes. Groups that skip these miss the market's primary differentiator over Las Vegas.
Transportation in this market
Reno is a driving market. RNO → RSCC is 10 minutes. RSCC → Grand Sierra is 5 minutes. The Tahoe run (Mt. Rose Hwy or I-80 via Hwy 267) needs coaches, not sedans, and requires scheduling precision around arrival/departure flow.
Trident manages all Reno/Tahoe transportation through Neumann Enterprises — sedans through 56-passenger Prevost coaches. Airport transfers, hotel-to-RSCC shuttles, and Tahoe extensions all under one operator with one point of contact.
Reno + Graeagle golf extension
Graeagle — 5 championship courses including Golf Digest Top 100 Grizzly Ranch — is 90 minutes from Reno. A common Trident program format: convention or team meetings in Reno, then a 2–3 day Graeagle golf extension. One contract covers both legs. See our Graeagle planning guide for course details.

Late April–May and October–November offer the best combination of open venues, off-peak rates, and mild weather. Reno averages 300 days of sunshine.
